One day at a time, repeated.

This past week, I was blessed to be interviewed by Vshred, one of the programs I used as part of my health journey, and they asked me to share a “before and after” photo with them. I have no idea when or if they will post it to their account, but if you want to check it out, here is the link on Instagram.

I did, however, want to share the caption that I posted along with the picture:

One day at a time, repeated.

This has been the focus for me during this entire health journey, and even though I had/have big goals, I try to focus on doing my best each day and then trying to repeat that over and over again. Eventually, you start to see results, and that’s what keeps me going.

This past week, I was interviewed by @vshred and was asked to share before and after pictures, which you see here. It’s a little intimidating, but it’s good to remember where I was when I started and that I can still grow, but I’m enjoying this moment.

When I started VShred, it helped me think about how I exercise, but I didn’t see the results I wanted because I tried to outwork a bad diet. I started using @lumen.me, which helped me focus on what I eat daily, how it affects my weight, and how I feel. When I did both together and took the lessons learned from each, I really started to see results. I’m not saying this can work for everyone, but I’m often asked about what’s helped me, and this is the answer.

But it was also focusing on this idea of “One day at a time, repeated.” It wasn’t just doing my workout that day but also making sure I focus on what I eat, how I spend my time, and who I spend my time with.

This is not to say I haven’t had bad days. I have. But I’m better at starting over again the next day. Bad days are becoming more of a “blip” than an obstacle that I could not possibly overcome.

I’m glad I see progress, but I still want to get better personally and professionally in many facets of my life.

One day at a time, repeated.

That’s the goal.

To expand on this as I think about this from a mental health standpoint. Most people see a physical change in me, and yes, that is part of it.

But the most significant change I have had is with how I deal with depression and anxiety. It is not something that I talk about all of the time, but I share in hopes that it can help someone else.

The biggest change is how I get up each day, especially after a rough day prior. Before, a bad moment could lead to a bad day, which could lead to a bad week, and so on.

Do I have bad moments still? Yup.

Do I have bad days still? Of course.

Weeks? YES!

But the way I am dealing with things is different. I can move forward quicker than I have in the past. Part of it and this was shared to me by a good friend this past week that I am 100% successful at getting over things up until this point.

Think of it this way…We encourage educators always to give kids a new chance every day! That is something I am adamant about for others.

Yet, I couldn’t do the same for myself. I would hold on and get stuck in what happened yesterday and hold on to it today, the next day, and so on. Sometimes, I would get bothered by the idea that I was upset about what happened the day prior, which would snowball into being upset about being upset.

But this mantra of “One day at a time, repeated.” has helped me make the best out of each day. To start over and focus on the moment now, to make tomorrow better.

We can get caught up in the past so much that we lose sight of the impact we can have today, losing opportunities for success tomorrow.

More to come on this idea of “One day at a time, repeated.” soon :)
